Data and Communication: A Winning Combination

Here at the Colorado Health Institute we find the best data and information available, figure out what it means for Colorado, and share it in a useful, easy-to-access way to help inform health policy decisions across the state.

This requires a team with expertise in many areas, including data analysis, research, strategic planning, visual storytelling, design, writing and editing. Everything we do is a team project, working together to find creative and effective ways to communicate data and analysis. Our team has a left brain and a right brain and we make sure to use both!

Team CHI was thrilled to have our work recognized last night with five Gold Leaf Awards, presented by Colorado Healthcare Communicators. These awards acknowledged work done between August 2012 and August 2013, which happened to be a particularly busy time at the Colorado Health Institute.

In case you missed them the first time, here are our award winners:

Our biennial conference for lawmakers included many presentations from Colorado Health Institute staff, both introductions to the nuts and bolts of health policy as well as current “hot issues”, which all had accompanying fact sheets. There were also presentations from national and state health policy leaders.

This paper explores the factors that drive positive health outcomes and evaluates how Colorado stacks up in five key areas: schools, the workplace, communities, the health care delivery system and the places where we age.

The Colorado Health Institute marked its 10th anniversary with the publication of this photo book that shows Coloradans on the front lines of health care - providers, patients, educators, students, volunteers and community health advocates. It covers the state from Montrose to Las Animas, from inner city Denver to the San Luis Valley. And it depicts all ages, from a minutes-old baby to seniors working to stay healthy and vibrant.

Our first online annual report is complete with infographics, photos, hyperlinks, and CHI staff trivia.

This celebration included not only the photo book, Colorado: A Picture of Health, but also a great party and a video that included interviews with organization founders, community members, and staff looking at the history of the Colorado Health Institute and where we are heading.
