Super Bummed, But Still Super Busy
The Broncos’ loss hit us hard here at the Colorado Health Institute, but there is no time to slow down with another busy week, both in our own state and over on the East Coast.
This week, members of the CHI team are in Washington, D.C., to take part in AcademyHealth’s National Health Policy Conference. Sara Schmitt, our Director of Community Health Policy, will be presenting on work done in conjunction with a field study of the Affordable Care Act in 29 states. CHI staff will be in attendance to support Sara and to discuss health care issues with policy leaders from across the nation.

Also on the East Coast this week is Amy Downs, Senior Director for Policy and Analysis. Amy is participating in a weeklong course at the Kennedy School for Government titled “Leadership for the 21st Century.” She will join a group of international and national leaders to examine leadership in the context of competing commitments among stakeholders. The course will involve work in the classroom, small group meetings and individual reflection. We are excited for her to bring all she learns back to CHI.
February is National Children’s Dental Health Month and CHI will be celebrating by releasing a two page brief on children’s oral health using data from the Colorado Health Access Survey (CHAS). Related to oral health, CHI is partaking in an oral health leadership convening today and tomorrow led by Caring for Colorado. The meeting will bring together stakeholders from across the state to understand baseline oral health needs and challenges. They will also be discussing innovative approaches from other states that may be viable in Colorado.
Here in the office, we are busy working on a number of projects set to unveil in the coming weeks. The Colorado Health Foundation’s 2013 Colorado Health Report Card remains a top priority for a number of CHI staff. We are also focusing on Amy’s February 12 health care lunch & learn presentation, which will highlight market-based solutions to target health care costs.
