Colorado’s Uninsured Rate: Know the Number, Win a Watch

I’m thinking of a number between zero and 14.3.

Guess it, and you could win an Apple Watch.

The number is Colorado’s new uninsured rate, according to the 2015 Colorado Health Access Survey, or CHAS.

The Colorado Health Institute will release the survey September 1. The CHAS, funded by the Colorado Trust, is Colorado’s most comprehensive look at health insurance coverage, health status and access to care. We run the survey every other year, and the 2015 version is the first time we will see the effects of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). In fact, we think it will be the most comprehensive look yet in any state at ACA implementation.

We will host several CHAS debut events starting Tuesday, September 1, in Denver. Click here for the calendar. If you can’t make it, we will post a video presentation on our website when we release the results. Also, we’re taking CHAS on the road across Colorado this fall, and we will share regional data customized for each stop on the tour.
That brings us to the number on everyone’s mind — the uninsured rate. It stood at 14.3 percent in 2013, meaning that roughly 740,000 Coloradans lacked health insurance. The ACA was designed to reduce that rate, in Colorado and every other state.

I’ll give you a tiny hint for the contest: The rate didn’t go up. Now I’ll leave it up to you to guess how much it dropped.

Please guess to the nearest tenth of a percentage point. The closest prediction (over or under) wins. In the event of a tie, we will hold a drawing.

Email your entry to CHAS@ColoradoHealthInstitute.org, or tweet to @ColoHealthInst with the hashtag #2015CHAS. Entries must be received by 5 p.m. Friday, August 28.

Good luck, and stay tuned for lots more news about the 2015 Colorado Health Access Survey.
