As part of its Health Workforce Project, CHI is conducting a random, stratified survey of licensed practical nurses (LPNs) in the state. Approximately 2,500 LPNs were mailed a cover letter and questionnaire on November 26, 2007. Responses were accepted through January 31, 2008.
Password-protected record-level data from the survey, with identifying information from respondents removed, are available to researchers who submit a data-use agreement (see Research Data File below).
The survey is designed to create a baseline of information about Colorado's LPN workforce and identify the most relevant workforce policy issues facing LPNs. Questions deal with the following areas:
- Optimal role of LPNs in today's health care delivery system;
- LPNs' preparedness for their first LPN position;
- LPNs who were previously CNAs;
- Retention of LPNs in the health care workforce;
- LPNs' perception of their work environments, including satisfaction with their work; and
- LPNs' health insurance status.
