2009 Health Professions Workforce Inventory

Health Professions Workforce Inventory The 2009 Health Professions Workforce Inventory profiles educational programs that provide training related to 20 health professions as well as workforce initiatives that strive to increase awareness of health care opportunities. Funded by The Colorado Trust as part of its focus on increasing the number of health professionals, the inventory is designed to be a tool to increase statewide collaboration among health workforce coalitions, educational institutions and workforce development organizations.

To promote the oral health workforce to serve underserved populations including Medicaid, CHP+, Uninsured, and Old Age Pension recipients by providing loan repayment opportunity for those that do.

Diagnostic Medical Sonography

Organization: Pueblo Community College
Type: Workforce Initiative
To educate and provide qualified Diagnostic Medical Sonographers to underserved areas of Southeast Colorado

Distance Learning Program

Organization: Community Health Association of Mountain/Plains States
Type: Workforce Initiative
Provides opportunities for affordable and convenient continuing education to enhance the attractiveness of careers in health centers and strengthen health center organizations through access to current best practices. Implemented in March 2004 in response to a tele-education needs assessment of Region VIII community health centers that indicated a high interest in Web-based distance learning opportunities. Webcasts are available for continuing medical education credit and are offered in archived versions for one year past the live event date.

Emergency Medical and Trauma Services Provider Grants

The initiative is evolving. Currently, the initiative supports training and recruitment and retention efforts.

Experience 9 to 5

Organization: Adams County Education Consortium
Type: Workforce Initiative
High school students are provided up to 10 contact hours within an area of professional interest. They meet with professionals in the track of study that is most interesting to them to learn about skills needed to be successful, career paths common in the industry and hands-on experience doing work typical of that profession.

Family Medicine OB Fellowship Pilot

Organization: Commission on Family Medicine

Advanced OB training for a family physician interested in working in rural health.
