Informing Policy. Advancing Health.

Save the Date!

And, no, this is not a wedding. It’s our annual Hot Issues in Health Care Conference. This year, we’re headed to Cheyenne Mountain Resort December 14 and 15. Complete with engaging keynote speakers and Colorado Health Institute (CHI) experts, you don’t want to miss out on the hottest conference this winter. Put it on your calendar now.

The 2015 Healthy Kids Colorado Survey is full of interesting data. CHI’s analysts have been delving into it, and we’ll be reporting on the findings from this year’s survey of 17,000 kids in a series of posts and interactive data dashboards. The first analysis looks at violence from the viewpoint of Colorado’s high school students. Look for it later this week.

It’s been four years since the tragic shootings at the Aurora movie theater. Policy Analyst Tamara Keeney and health policy intern Zoe Wohlgenant revisited the policy changes around mental health after the shootings. They have written a three-part blog series diving into legislation in Colorado. They also researched how Connecticut responded to the shooting that took place at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Stay informed with this timely series.

Policy Analyst Natalie Triedman and Director of Community Health Policy Sara Schmitt will be in Weld County tomorrow. Their presentation, organized by CHI in collaboration with the Weld County Area Agency on Aging, Senior Helping Seniors and the North Colorado Medical Center, will focus on findings from the 2015 Colorado Health Access Survey on Weld County’s aging population.

Remember, you can request your own presentation with local data by e-mailing CHAS@ColoradoHealthInstitute.org.

The alphabet is closing in on the letter “Z.” Last week we published two new maps with new data to go with them. “R” and “S” are available for viewing on our website, focusing on the rise in underinsurance and social determinants of health in Colorado. If you’ve missed any of the letters, you can find them on our Insights & Analysis page.

CHI is staying busy behind the scenes and we have several important reports coming out soon. These include the final installment of our built environment series – Better by Design – on transportation, a new independent financial analysis on Amendment 69 (you can read the first analysis on ColoradoCare here) and CHI’s annual report.
