Presentations - And Pumpkins - Top of Mind This Week

Halloween is coming and this year a number of Colorado Health Institute staffers will be dressing up in their presentation best.

A few months back, the team received training on delivering presentations from Jeannie Gunter, president of Transformative Training Solutions. We will be using Jeannie’s tips frequently over the coming weeks as we deliver a number of presentations across the state and prepare for our Hot Issues in Health Care policy conference in December.

Senior Analyst Tasia Sinn, kicked off the week with a presentation to the Region 12 Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) in Silverthorne. Her presentation focused on factors that are key to the success of ADRCs.

Amy Downs, Senior Director for Policy and Analysis, gave a lecture on publicly funded health insurance programs for a health policy class at the Colorado School of Public Health.

We have uploaded a presentation delivered at the Rural Health Center Conference by research analysts Tamara Keeney and Natalie Triedman to our website. The presentation, Health on the Range: What the Latest Data Tell Us about Rural Coloradans, uses data from the Colorado Health Access Survey to discuss challenges and opportunities in rural Colorado. That presentation can be found here.

Speaking of regional data, CHI has compiled 21 presentations with data on demographics, health insurance coverage, health status and more for each Health Statistics Region (HSR) in the state. Visit our Local Data, Local Health page to download the presentation for your region. We hope that they are useful as local leaders work to understand their regions.

Meanwhile, staff members are hard at work on their presentations for this year’s Hot Issues in Health Care conference. CHI will deliver 12 presentations (six of which will be co-presented with colleagues from sister organizations). If you haven’t seen our preliminary agenda, you can find that here.

Outside of the preparation and delivery of presentations, this week features another meeting of the Colorado Commission on Affordable Health Care. CHI Senior Communications Expert Joe Hanel attended today’s meeting. Watch for his summary of the meeting by Tuesday afternoon.

A new evaluation report commissioned by Engaged Public and led by Amy Downs has been released. From Theory to Practice: An Evaluation of the Engaged Benefit Design Pilot at San Luis Valley Health highlights the implementation process and overall results of a pilot project by Engaged Public that tested value-based insurance design in Alamosa. Results of the pilot are being used to extend Engaged Benefit Design to other areas of Colorado.

As far as pumpkins, we are looking forward to Thursday’s staff pumpkin-carving and potluck lunch.

Finally, we’ll end with a photo that often caps our presentations – and which always makes audience members smile. Julie Zavala, a Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, performs a wellness exam on a young patient at the Kids Clinic at Crawford Elementary School in Aurora. It reminds all of us that the best health policy often rests with a committed and passionate health care provider.
