Pamela P. Hanes, PhD
President and Chief Executive Officer

Pamela P. Hanes, PhD, became president and CEO of the Colorado Health Institute in June 2003. In 2008, a bylaws change allowed Pam to become a non-voting member of the CHI Board of Trustees.

Pam has been involved in health policy formulation, health services research and program evaluation for more than 30 years in a variety of venues. She was appointed the first executive director of the Oregon Health Policy Institute (OHPI) in 1994 and subsequently became director of the Center for Health and Disability Policy within OHPI. Pam also held a faculty appointment in the Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine at the Oregon Health and Science University.

In 2000, Pam co-founded and served as principal investigator to the National Consortium for Health Systems Development, one of two national technical assistance centers authorized by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to assist states in the development and monitoring of supportive services and other Medicaid enhancements for workers with disabilities. Previously, she was an assistant professor in the School of Social Work at the University of Wisconsin in Madison following a stint as a senior researcher at the Institute for Health and Aging, University of California, San Francisco. During the early 1980s, Pam was the principal health and welfare consultant to the California Assembly Ways and Means Committee in Sacramento.

Pam has received a number of academic honors including serving as a Fulbright Senior Scholar in 2002 at the Institute for Public Health, Collegium Medicum in the Jagellonian University in Krakow, Poland. She holds a PhD in social welfare policy from the University of California at Berkeley and has a master’s degree in social work from California State University in Sacramento.
