"Grow Your Own" is a youth pipeline health careers awareness program intended to serve SLV high school sophomores, juniors and seniors expressing an interest in pursuing a health career. The program in Colorado was established at the SLVAHEC in 1979. The program today has also incorporated into the "Grow Your Own" program the Student Health Careers Guild.

Data collected:

The SLVAHEC conducted a twenty five year survey of the Summer Health Careers Institute and had it published. The most significant finding from the survey was that from 135 individuals who participated in this program and completed the survey, 44% of them are in a health care occupation today. The Program Works!!

Major accomplishments:

As previously mentioned, the SLVAHEC's twenty five year Summer Health Careers Institute survey showing that 44% of participants participating in this inititative are currently working in a health care occupation.

Barriers over next 12 months:

As long as our anticipated funding is realized, not many challenges other than time budgeting to be realistic with the types and number of activities able to provide students for the intention of supporting their health careers interests and pursuits.
