2008 Colorado Registered Nurse Workforce Survey

In mid-October 2008, the Colorado Health Institute (CHI) began surveying registered nurses (RNs) in Colorado about practice and training issues related to the nursing workforce. Approximately 3,000 licensed RNs were randomly selected to receive the survey which focuses on education, clinical experiences, job satisfaction, practice setting, time spent on various duties, future career plans and interest in becoming a nursing faculty member.

The research data file is available to researchers who have received approval from the Colorado Health Institute Review Committee to use the micro–level data from the survey for legitimate research purposes.


The public use file (PUF) is available to researchers and data analysts who have completed the Data Use Agreement.

CHI Publication 2008 Colorado Registered Nurse Workforce Survey Findings
Findings from the survey questionnaire administered in 2008 to Colorado’s licensed registered nurses (RNs). The purpose of the survey is to increase policymakers’ understanding of the education, training and practice issues that currently characterize the RN workforce in Colorado. The RN survey is part of CHI's health professions database project.
