Action 22 Counties: County Coalition of Southern Colorado
Formed in 1999, Action 22 is a volunteer-driven membership organization of individuals, cities, communities, counties, associations, businesses and organizations in the 22-county region shown on the map.
All-Hazards Emergency Management Regions
CDEM provides financial and technical support to local communities in nine regions throughout the state.
Area Agencies on Aging
Area Agencies on Aging are designated by the state to be the focal point for supportive home and community-based services for older residents. Colorado has 14 planning and service areas so that programs can be tailored to meet the specific needs of older persons residing in those areas.
Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Regions
The Colorado AHEC system is a community/academic partnership involving the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center (UCHSC) with its five schools (Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Pharmacy, Graduate) and five AHECs, each serving a designated region of the state. As shown on the map, four of the AHECs are rural, community-based independent organizations. The fifth is predominantly urban, with a community-based advisory board.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is under the Colorado Department of Public Safety. It is broken down into three main jurisdictions, with field offices located in Pueblo, Montrose and Durango.
Colorado Counties, Inc.
Colorado Counties, Inc. (CCI) is a nonpartisan, nonprofit member-based organization created to help county commissioners better serve people in their region. CCI organizes Colorado counties into five districts so county commissioners in the same geographic region can meet quarterly to discuss issues of common concern pertinent to their diverse region of Colorado.

Colorado County Classifications
The Colorado Rural Health Center (CRHC) is an independent, nonprofit, membership-based organization that serves as the state office of rural health for Colorado. It offers programs and services to ensure that rural communities have access to adequate health care. CRHC uses the U.S. Census Bureau definitions to classify the counties in Colorado, defining "rural" as a community under 25,000 people which is not part of an urbanized area and "frontier" as six or fewer people per square mile. The map shows which counties are considered frontier, rural and urban under these guidelines.
Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing (HCPF): Medicaid Information Regions
Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing (HCPF) regions were derived in 2003 as a way of delivering information to the public under the privacy rules of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). HCPF divides the state into 20 regions to protect client confidentiality and provide anonymity for smaller counties. Some counties have large enough populations to stand alone while others are grouped together.
