Emily King originally joined the Colorado Health Institute (CHI) in 2008 as a workforce intern. As an intern, she worked on the Collaborative Scopes of Care Study, the Health Professions Workforce Inventory and a white paper on long-term care, among other projects. Emily joined CHI full time in May 2010 and is currently a research associate and GIS specialist. One of her major research projects is coordinating CHI’s work on the Colorado Health Report Card. As GIS specialist, she creates and presents maps for CHI staff, policymakers, foundations and local nonprofits. In addition, she leads CHI’s social media campaign on Twitter and Facebook, and coordinates the blog, Analysis with Altitude.
Before coming to CHI, Emily attended the University of Colorado (CU) at Boulder and graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of arts in public health and a certificate in leadership. Her honors thesis explored the implications of Colorado HB09-1293 Medicaid expansions for uninsured, low-income adults on Colorado safety net clinics.
Emily spent a semester in the Dominican Republic studying Spanish and Dominican literature. During her time in there, she interned at a public health clinic and worked with a community health worker to implement a prenatal care program for first-time mothers in Santiago.
At CU, Emily was a President’s Leadership Class (PLC) scholar and served on PLC’s staff as the director of experiential programs and as a class adviser. She also co-founded and served as co-president of the CU chapter of GlobeMed, a network of student-run nonprofit organizations that partner with NGOs in developing countries on global health projects.
In her spare time, Emily enjoys long-distance running, experimenting with lactose-free recipes and scheming about her next travel adventure.
